business reviews in the UK from Practical Sales & Marketing

We work with your senior management team, from start to finish, to achieve your desired results, utilising business reviews skills as appropriate.

We also endeavour to introduce a "fun" element in all that we do in business reviews as we find that a different, unorthodox approach often opens doors that more conventional means cannot.

Opportunity Cost

In his excellent book, “How to be a Time Master”, Time Management expert Ian Cooper poses the question “Is there someone else who can do this better, faster, less expensively or at least as well as me?”

He goes on to say:

“You should print this question off in bold print and hang it on your wall. Better still why not get someone else to print and hang it for you!

If the answer is yes for a particular task, then at the very least consider delegating. I have had many clients who clearly hadn’t asked themselves this question.

One such client, a large legal practice, had one of its high-billing partners responsible for the firm’s marketing. When I asked him why a marketing professional wasn’t employed to do the job, I was told, “We can’t afford it”. I went on to discover through conversation with this partner that he had no training, experience or knowledge of marketing. He also confessed that it took him ages to carry out the simplest of tasks, which he admitted usually got poor results.

In addition to that, when we worked out the cost to the firm of him performing this role in lost chargeable hours, it was over three times the cost of employing a really experienced marketer. Had he asked the key question above, he would have stood a chance of making the connection that getting someone else in would have been better, faster and less expensive!”

With the expected influx of cheaper operators since the relaxations embodied in The Legal Services Act can firms afford to do without professional marketing assistance?

The Barnabas Factor – the 3 “E”s

St Barnabas was St Paul’s line up man, confidante and friend. Although he is mentioned a number of times in the Bible, little is known about him except that he had a reputation for encouraging people. People that are encouraged develop a more positive attitude – they actually enjoy what they are doing and most certainly become more enthusiastic. We see this at work with our children and, we see the destructive element when negative attitudes kill off any enthusiasm.

Norman Vincent Peale in his book “Enthusiasm Makes the Difference” says: “I rate enthusiasm even above professional skills for without enthusiasm one would scarcely be willing to endure the self discipline and endless toil so necessary in developing skill. Enthusiasm is the dynamic motivator that keeps one persistently working towards his goal.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Nothing great was achieved without enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm is contagious. We have all met people that will never set the world alight; indeed they form the majority. But wow, don’t we know it when we meet someone that is enthusiastic – we get caught up with it; we want a part of it: we want to hang onto it. Why? Because enthusiasm builds excitement and excitement spills over into action.

Excited people BUY and that’s what we’re in business for. We’re not teasing them, we really want to do business with them, and better than that THEY WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH US.

And guess what – the process is self perpetuating – the more excited people that buy, the more encouraged we become, and the more enthusiastic and the more excited. So when things aren’t going according to plan think about St Barnabas and the 3.
